Supporting Vital Ecosystems, Including Humans
Over 400 lbs of produce have already been distributed and donated to the community of Cazadero!
In Sonoma County, there are over 57,000 acres dedicated to vineyards, making viticulture a dominant industry in the region. In stark contrast, only 250 acres are devoted to vegetable farming. This disparity highlights the critical need for initiatives like ours that focus on sustainable food farming. Additionally, the number of animals being produced in the area has halved in recent years, further emphasizing the importance of creating a balanced ecosystem that supports both agriculture and wildlife.
At Teravana, our gardens are more than just a source of food—they are a living example of how humans can coexist harmoniously with nature. By growing and distributing food in agroecological ways, we are committed to demonstrating a healthy and sustainable relationship between food, forest, and community.
We grow a variety of crops that cater to the needs of our diverse community, including the wildlife that shares the land with us. By selecting crops that are well-suited to the local environment and cultural traditions, we are able to provide nourishing food that supports both human and animal populations. This approach fosters a deep connection between the community and the land, promoting mutual respect and care.
Impact on the Community: Through our gardens, we aim to support and nourish the local community by providing fresh, sustainably grown produce. We distribute this food to various populations in need, ensuring that everyone has access to healthy, nutritious options. Our efforts are part of a broader commitment to food justice, ensuring that our gardens contribute to the well-being of all who call this land home.
Teravana is dedicated to tending our community garden and sharing it with people who have a need for healthy fruits and vegetables. Your support would help us grow more fruits and vegetables for the community and beyond!
